Your job is to till the field. The rains belong to a larger force.
Look inside
“Your right is in the action only, never in its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.”
Most of us have a list.
Lose ten pounds. Read more books. Be a better friend, a better spouse, a better parent. Maybe finally start meditating.
We make the list with the best of intentions. Then a few weeks pass, we quietly disappoint ourselves, and the list is folded away in a drawer somewhere.
… the reflection continues
“Your job is to till the field. The rains belong to a larger force.”
What is one thing I can do today, fully and well, without attaching to how it turns out?
Do it with your full attention. And as you finish, say to yourself: I did my part. The rest is not mine.
Krishna, give me the strength to act with sincerity, and the wisdom to let go of results.
Day 1, word for word from the book (shortened reflection).
Why 108
108 is the number of beads on a mala. The book is not dated and not meant to be finished. Begin on any day, and if you miss a week, begin again where you left off.
The book grew out of the Arise Arjuna Foundation’s podcast on the Gita. Listeners kept writing in about a single line that had carried them through a hard week. This book gathers those lines.
